Modeling on Gotland

I have some exciting news! At least it is news to some of you.
My friend and skilled photographer Joacim Schwartz encouraged me to send some pictures to some model agencies, so I did. One agency actually got back to me to ask if I could walk the runway as well. To be honest, I wasn’t sure. I usually don’t use high heels and I’ve never done a catwalk in my life. Still, I agreed to a casting. I practised at home with the help of youtube videos and the very next day I went to the agency. They approved of my walk and sent me directly to a customer for another casting and they hired me for a show. I was really excited but also a bit nervous. I have seen far too many fail videos of models tripping on stage…
The customer turned out to be the Swedish Fashion Council and they were to have a runway show in Almedalen on Gotland. Gotland is a charming island in the baltic sea and known for all its medieval churches and town walls. It is also where they recorded most of the Pippi Longstocking series and the inspiration for the town in the Ghibli movie “Kiki’s delivery service”. No wonder that it’s a popular tourist destination!
The fashion show was for the Almedalen week. It’s a political week where politicians have speeches, seminars and so on. Our fashion show was to show eco friendly fabrics made out of paper or milk and so on.

It took around 4 hours to get from Stockholm to Gotland and we arrived at around 2 PM. Then we had to hurry to get ready! I got to wear clothes from the brand Filippa K. I felt lucky because the outfit was so comfortable except… I had to wear the highest heels of all the models. That made me a bit anxious because I didn’t have any experience with such shoes. I was scared of walking like a stork! But once it was my turn to get on stage I didn’t mind the shoes at all. I just walked, posed and didn’t stumble or anything! I actually had a lot of fun when I was on stage and enjoyed every second of it! I wasn’t half as nervous as I thought I’d be. It was a thrilling experience and I’m glad that they gave me that particular outfit to wear. Haha! I looked like such a diva! A nice diva.

I was able to find a picture of me on stage on IKEM’s facebook page. IKEM is short for “Industrin tar matchen” who arranged this show.

The woman beside me is from the Swedish Fashion Council talking about the clothes I was wearing. She did that with every outfit and we were around 20 models.

TV 4 was there to film and I managed to find it online. Here you can see a short clip of the final with us models taking a last turn on the stage. I walk in at 2:00 with black clothes and sunglasses.

And that was it! The show ended around 7 PM. We had a lot of time to kill afterwards because the ferry to take us home didn’t depart until 1 AM. Let me show you some pictures of Gotland!

We later went to a place to sit down and have some drinks. We weren’t allowed to drink alcohol though so I just had some fancy looking coffee.

Trust me, I needed that coffee. The ferry didn’t depart until 1 AM and it wasn’t until 6 in the morning that I could finally crawl into bed to get a few hours sleep. It was exhausting but I had so much fun and I hope to do this again sometime! Might be able to do more shows in fall or something. If you ever decide to visit Sweden you should check out Gotland as well. It’s really nice there. I’ve been there maybe three times but I want to visit again in order to do some touristy sightseeing. I want to see Pippi Longstocking’s house!
